How the ESO®-System works

How ESO® reduces your operating costs and increase efficiency through intelligent control.
ESO-Anlage

What is ESO® and what effects does it have?

The ESO® system is an intelligent, electronic-dynamic control system for inductive loads, that adapts flexibly to the requirements of your power grid.
Reduce power grid losses: By improving the power factor, the system reduces energy losses in the power grid and lowers operating costs.
Reduce interference impulses: The ESO system protects sensitive devices and machines from voltage peaks and drops, minimizes downtimes and reduces repair costs.
Smooth out harmonics: Reducing interfering harmonic frequencies extends the life of your equipment and increases energy efficiency.
Harmonize the grid and increase operational reliability: Continuous adjustment and control of parameters ensure a harmonized grid, increase operational reliability and minimize disruptions.

Structure of the system

The ESO® system uses three control and capacitor groups to detect inductive loads, reduce their reactive and proportionate active power. Main values are shown on displays, usage is indicated by LEDs.

Inductive, capacitive, resistive loads

Inductive loads: motor-driven devices such as machines, pumps, ventilation, cooling/air conditioning systems, lifts/escalators. Capacitive: switching power supplies, screens, scanners, inverter welders, LED lighting. Resistive: light bulbs, heaters, ovens.

Harmonics

Harmonics are multiples of the 50 Hz mains frequency caused by switching operations and can increase currents in the neutral conductor, leading to cable and appliance damage, increased heat, unwanted magnetic fields and overheating of motors, generators and capacitors.

Transients (voltage peaks)

Transients are short, high-energy interference pulses that can lead to faster wear of the connected devices. Reliable detection is necessary to avoid the resulting damage.

L-C resonant circuit

It is a little known fact that inductances, such as motor windings, together with capacitances in the form of capacitors form a so-called L-C resonant circuit. This resonant circuit has the ability to dampen harmonics and transients. This helps to reduce the active power and optimizes the energy efficiency of the entire system.

Reactive current reduction and cos φ

The power factor (cos φ) can be up to 1. With complete reactive current compensation by ESO®, cos φ = 1 and no reactive current would be drawn from the grid. With ESO®, the current measurement shows a reduction in the current flow due to compensated reactive current and slightly reduced active current thanks to harmonic attenuation and lower grid losses.

Imagine your electricity grid and consumption were like a glass of beer.
The power consumption consists of two parts: Liquid (active power) and foam (reactive power). Now imagine that you pay €5 for it, for example.
What happens now if you install ESO® in your company? Quite simply: you get more liquid and less foam for the same money! For you, this means more benefit and efficiency for the same price.

Further advantages

By additionally harmonizing your current voltage and smoothing/attenuating your harmonics, as well as reducing mains interference pulses, you improve the quality of your beer and get even more value for your money.
